Higher Mill was constructed in the 18th century as a mill factory and warehouse together with mill cottages on the site of an existing mill that has origins dating back to the 13th century. The complex has been used for a variety of industrial purposes of the years before the Buckfast Abbey Trust acquired it in 1987.
The group of buildings is located high on the western boundary overlooking the Abbey and is an imposing and attractive building within a mature landscape including a pond and lauder – an unusual and important feature of the complex.
The project involved bring the building back into use a flexible office workspace yet retaining the character of this fine building. SWS worked along with the architects to provide access control solutions and door hardware.
